Today’s question is not about online casinos, in fact, it is about land-based casinos, in Australia no less. The question is an interesting one and one that will capture the imagination of any casino player. So what is this amazing question? In which city will you find Australia’s first casino?

Australian City With First Casino

The answer to this question is one that might astound many. The reason for this is that you cannot find it in any of the major cities one would think of. The city in which you will find Australia’s first casino in Hobart. Those not from Australia might be wondering where this is, it is the capital of Tasmania.

The casino is called Wrest Point Hotel Casino. The hotel itself was opened back in 1939 under the name Wrest Point Riviera Hotel; but dropped Riviera from the name later on. The casino itself was launched back on the 10th February 1973 to huge fanfare. As it was a massive turning point in the history of casinos in Australia.

To get the casino license it took a lot of lobbying by a man named John Haddad. He talked to all the major officials in Tasmania. So a referendum was put forward and just passed to give the company he ran with others the license needed to open.

Today the Wrest Point Hotel Casino is still going and is a major tourist and casino destination for anyone visiting Hobart. The casino boasts an array of brilliant casino games and also loads of different entertainment venues such as bars and restaurants.
